A Guide to Home Weight Machines

For busy people tired of trekking to the gym every other day, home weight machines offer a good solution. One of the principle advantages for most people is that with a home weights machine in the house, one can work out in the privacy of ones own home. No more queuing for showers, sharing weights or machines, and no time wasted traveling from A to B.

However, home weight machines are neither cheap, nor easy to select, especially for those starting out with a home gym for the first time. There are many different machines and free standing weights systems to choose from, depending on the goals you set.

To begin with, it is an idea to go to a commercial gym, or shop, and seek buying advice on home gym equipment, to be sure that the equipment on offer is the best for your needs. Even if prices are lower for weights and machines on the internet, nothing beats getting the personal touch.

After all, you never know when you might need an additional weight, home weight machine servicing, or even someone to call at your house to replace or repair one or more of your home weight machines; it is worth knowing where the local gyms or dealers are.

Equipment such as home weight machines tend to weigh rather a lot, so the first thing you need to do is work out where in the house you are going to locate your home gym. For example, if you intend to site it upstairs, be aware that the whole weight will probably be too much unless you have strong floors.

Once you have found a reasonable place that can withstand the weight of home weight machines, you will also have an idea of the available space – both floor space and height. It might turn out that you have neither the space available on the ground floor nor very strong floors, and so need to choose from the ranges of gym equipment which work on the basis of a variable resistance cord, rather than traditional weights.

This being the case, of course, free weights might be the best choice of equipment, rather than an actual Smith machine, if space is at a premium. It is always possible to graduate to more sophisticated home weight machines at a later stage if circumstances change.

Finally, remember that using a weight machine in the home is no substitute for attending a gym from time to time, if only to weigh in, use some more sophisticated machines, or have social contact with similar minded people. Above all, it will motivate both you and them and will complement you own home gym and weight system.
