If you are feeling chronic pain in the small joints of your hands or feet, you may have arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are evident with pain and swelling in those joints. This particular type of arthritis is a chronic disorder and has nothing to do with wear and tear. Instead it is directly related to the lining of the joints.
Unfortunately, it results in bone erosion and causes the formation and those joints that are affected. It is in fact an autoimmune disorder. That means that your own body is attacking its own tissues in error. It usually affects adults between the ages of 40 to 60, and is more likely to affect women than men.
Many sufferers have several symptoms. These symptoms include weight loss, tenderness around the affected joints, redness and swelling of those joints, fever, difficulty in sleeping, and fatigue. Most of them will also suffer from morning stiffness, along with the pain, which could last for a few hours.
The good news is that oftentimes, the symptoms fade away. You could say that they go into remission. But, it does not mean that you are cured, as a flareup can occur at any moment.
If you have been feeling anything like this, you should see your doctor. He may suggest that you start exercising to strengthen the muscles near the affected joints. He may suggest that you start walking, swimming, or take part in light aerobics. For those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis in the hands, squeezing a stress ball can help to strengthen those joint muscles.
Many sufferers have found relief from using heat, while others with cold. Cold compresses can relieve the pain of the cold, but must never be used in people who have bad circulation. As for heat, you can use heating pads, compresses, or even hot baths.
