Finding inexpensive exercise bikes

We all know that the internet is probably the best place to find inexpensive exercise bikes, but getting the best deal can be more complicated than just looking for the most inexpensive exercise bike, and getting out the credit card.

The problem with many inexpensive exercise bikes is that they are not necessarily discount models, or bikes in a sale. They might be reconditioned, or just cheap imitations of other models found on sale in the high street.

Firstly, there is nothing wrong with a reconditioned or remanufactured inexpensive exercise bike, except that one needs to be certain that it is not being sold as if it were new at a discount, and that it has been remanufactured correctly from pieces of other bikes that have been disassembled for this purpose.

However, if the bike will get a lot of use, it is always better to buy an inexpensive new one, than a full featured, cheap, reconditioned one. Many inexpensive exercise bikes trade quality parts against less complex electronic features, which will mean that they offer a good, if unvaried, cardiac workout.

Along with treadmills and other exercise equipment, bikes only offer the possibility to perform a single kind of workout, and as such perhaps buying inexpensive exercise bikes will free up some of the budget set aside to invest in other inexpensive exercise equipment that you might find on sale alongside it.

This would enable you to combine something from a range of inexpensive exercise bikes for cardiovascular workouts, with a reconditioned weight set or complete gym to vary the exercise to build muscle mass or just trim your contours. The bike would then not be the most expensive piece of kit, but part of a full home gym.

The end effect would be better than simply scouring inexpensive exercise bikes for a full featured one that looks really good, because at the end of the day, it is only a single exercise, and could be an important part of a wider regime.
