Evaluating Tunturi Ellipticals

When buying from the three most popular Tunturi ellipticals, the C6, C4 and C3, against others on the market it is necessary to evaluate them on price versus features. Each Tunturi elliptical strider in this limited range shares the same kind of basic features. Each of the Tunturi ellipticals has moving arms and magnetic resistance, making them silent.

What sets the C6 elliptical trainer apart from the other Tunturi ellipticals is the fact that this magnetic resistance is controlled electrically, which allows for 32 individual steps. This is better than the C4, which, being one of the cheaper Tunturi ellipticals, only allows 16 different settings, controlled by a servomotor. The cheapest of the three, the C3 elliptical strider only allows 8, but is functionally very similar to its more expensive siblings.

Another area in which the more expensive Tunturi ellipticals set themselves apart from the trainer market in general is in the detail provided in the graphical display. It should be noted that the C3 crosstrainer does not actually have as good a display, but for a basic strider, it offers enough feedback to enable you to monitor you workout.

Between the two more expensive Tunturi ellipticals, the C6 trainer does not seem to offer as substantial a feature list as the difference in prices might otherwise suggest. As an expensive crosstrainer, it will appear more to the heavier users, or high end home users, than those just using trainers to try and get fit. In fact, as far as its competition goes it is still a reasonably priced strider, costing half of what could be paid for other makes.

For those who are serious about using a crosstrainer to incrase their fitness levels, a good heart rate monitor is vital. While all three Tunturi ellipticals do offer heart rate monitoring, only the C6 trainer offers a telemetric solution, with the cheaper trainers measuring less accurately through the hand grips.

When looking through the Tunturi ellipticals on sale, you need to evaluate the above against the price, and decide which elliptical crosstrainer fits your needs. Bearing in mind that they are not cheap, it is still possible to pick up trainers over the internet at a reasonable price.

Some Tunturi ellipticals can also be acquired through the used or reconditioned markets. We would recommend trying to find elliptical trainers which have been rebuilt from spare parts, or barely used pieces, rather than buying a privately owned used piece of equipment.
